Root Vases: Small, Medium, Large

Root vases

Maintenance for plants in root vases is very simple.

Step 1: Maintain the water level to just above the roots at all times.

Step 2: Replace the old water with fresh water every other week to maintain the optimal health of the plant. Simply remove the cork with the plant attached, get a strainer, and pour out the old water over the strainer. The strainer will catch the rocks or gems. Rinse the rocks or gems before placing back in vase.

Step 3: Refill the vase with water and put the cork back in.

Tips:

Distilled or filtered water is best to use because it lacks additives and chemicals that may harm the plant. Tap water is OK to use if the water is left out for 24 hours which helps dissipate the chlorine.

It is OK to trim the roots of the plant in order to maintain the proper size to fit within the given vase. This will not harm the plant. Also, a new and bigger vase can be ordered from Autumn Journey Design and Decor in the event you would like to up-size due to plant growth. .

Tube Terrariums

Because tube terrariums are a self-sustaining ecosystem, they are very easy to care for. Simply pay attention to the moisture levels in the terrarium. A good level is slight to medium condensation in the tube.

Step 1: If the humidity is too much, which is water forming droplets that fall, then remove the cork from the terrarium and allow it to “dry out” for a couple of hours. Then replace the cork and continue to watch your mini rain-forest thrive.

Step 2: If the terrarium seems too dry, remove the cork and mist the terrarium with several squirts of distilled water. Then replace the cork and watch the terrarium start to make its own humidity once again. When the humidity level is at a good spot, this will rarely need to be done; as little as once a month or even less.

Tips:

The plants used in tube terrariums are generally shade plants. These terrariums do best in indirect sunlight such as an east facing window, or somewhere in the room where they are not in constant, direct sunlight.

Succulent Terrariums

Succulent terrariums do not require frequent watering. If the plants seem to not be doing well, they are probably being over-watered.

Step 1: Put distilled water in a mister (or leave tap water in the mister for 24 hours).

Step 2: Mist the terrariums about every week and a half to two weeks. Ensure soil gets wet, but not overly wet.

Tips:

Succulents do well in bright light, however it need not be direct sunlight.
